The Harlequin Homes New Custom Home Building Process

Building your own custom home is an exciting and rewarding experience for most people. You are the master of your creation, and you get to choose every aspect of your home, from the lot and location to the house layout and interior fixtures. While it may seem daunting to some, our goal at Harlequin Homes is to guide you through each step of the building process and make it a stress-free experience for you and your family.

Our 7 Step Guide to Getting Your Own Custom Home

Getting your own custom home built just the way you want it is as easy as 7 steps:

  1. Lot Selection: We will refer you with the names of 2-3 top producing real estate agents that are familiar with the area you're looking at.
  2. Architectural Guidelines: We will provide you with a detailed questionnaire to guide you through selecting the type and style of your dream home.
  3. Architect and Design Selection: We will arrange for you to meet with our architect and designer. Alternatively, we will meet and work with your preferred architect and designer if you have one.
  4. Colours and Upgrades: We will provide you with a comprehensive checklist and the designer you choose to work with will help guide you through the selection of the colour and style of your kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, flooring, fireplace styles, paint, trim and interior doors.
  5. Budget: Based on the size of the home and the preferred type of finishing materials, we will provide you with a realistic budget for your approval.
  6. Permit Process: Once we review the working drawings from the architect and you approve it and provide us with your deposit, we will submit the drawings and arrange for all necessary permits from the municipality. These permits will include the demolition permit (if required), the building permit and plumbing permit.
  7. Update Meetings: We will begin construction as soon as the permits are received. During the construction process, we will provide you with regular updates and discuss any potential modifications to the original plan.
